I'll try to help you here. Say you find a skin that you want and have located the file to download it. So you download it to your desktop and it is a zip file. You make another folder on your desktop and call it the name of the skin. You uncompress the zip into the new folder you just made. Delete the the zipped skin file since you have all of the skin files in your new folder.

Open the new skin folder. All files for UT will always end up in some particular folder in your UnrealTornament folder. Move the files to their proper folder using the following rules which apply to skins, voices, maps and everything. Below I have listed UT in the path to the folder but I mean for you to understand this as UT = your UnrealTournament folder. Here is the format:

Filename.u goes in the UT\System folder

Filename.int goes in the UT\System folder

Filename.unr goes in the UT\Maps folder

Filename.utx goes in the UT\Texture folder

Filename.uax goes in the UT\Sounds folder

Filename.umx goes in the UT\Music folder

Filename.ini goes in UT\Help folder

Other files like readme.doc and picture.jpg all go into the UT\Help folder.
If the file you are using is a UMOD which looks like "Filename.UMOD" then this is a self extracting self installing file. All you are supposed to have to do if it is made correctly is double click it and follow the installation instructions. These instructions are usually all pretty much the same for each .UMOD file.

Like I said, these rules apply to pretty much all of the UT add on files that you may ever want to add to your game folder. I have found adding maps and skins and voices to be a huge pain in the neck overall but to each his own. Good luck and I hope this helps.
