I agree with you there reiyel, the boosting idea is a good idea, sometimes its fun to boost.
LOL and i apologize if it sound like i was only aiming at you, read through some of my past posts and i feel like i shot you down sorry didnt mean it!

Hermskii the flak is supposed to be there, i have seen ppl get it before, im not sure why it isnt there now, could be the new mod.

also hermskii you setting up a game this weekend? hehe you know im in, it is long, and is only hard when you dont work as a team. we need at least 4 ppl though, otherwise its long, though i believe when mhm2 first turned into a team monster hunt server, Me, MEAT, and Chef played through the whole map together (did we get to the end? cant remember lol been so long)
if u work individually, its super hard, i beat the map by my self once took like 2 hours lol but with 5k health!
500 health yeah good challenge. haha

yes your right on about the health as usual 8)

overall i think the server change is great

if you want to make it harder you would turn up your monster's levels i can kill a pupae with one hit with the shock rifle (not combo) thats too easy. whats your level set at?

Hey...

Post by Hermskii » Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:39 pm

Right now, MonsterSkill is set to 1. I don't know what it goes up to though. I have to set it in the mod ini file since it over-writes all settings in the game actually. It came at level 5 and I think that 8 is the highest. It is at 1 now because I could not tell a difference when I was testing the mod. You know, because I'm like Chuck Norris and it doesn't matter if they are any good or not. They are going to die. LOL

I'll set it to 8 and see what we get. The server will need to crash before the setting takes effect. OK, so here we go from 1 to 8. Tell me what you notice.

Yes, I'm talking about possibly intentionally playing a game this weekend of this Long Corridor map since it is considered to be such a good remake and I have never played it to the end. Date and time is still in the air. I'd love to have each of you there and especially somebody who knows the map well enough to tell us what to do.

30 lives is not much but it is enough if we are each careful enough I think. The health is good too I hope.

Boosting. When I get the mod for it back on, my idea is to have it disabled by default with the ability for each player to turn it on or off as they want. Basically that is how I had it before but the on and off didn't work. This time it will work. Boosting is great when it is used as it was meant to be used and not to bug others with it.

Flak Cannon. Can we confirm the Flak cannon is not there now? Maybe I don't have the weapon-stay turned on so the first person who picks it up gets it. How can we see if that is the deal here or not?

Did I forget anything?
~Peace~

Okay i havent played yet but jumping from 1-8 is a HUGE difference lol but should be fun. And i thought the highest was 7? i know if u go to high, none of the monsters have health, and they die in one shot from anything.......

i know the map pretty good, and 30 lives is plenty, health is fine too!

The boosting sounds like a good idea, and is it part of the Excalibur Holland mutator you have, or are you setting up a whole different mutator?
I have no idea whats up with the flak lol check this weekend.....

I just now reset the skill level from 1 up to 5. The server should crash at some point tonight thus playing it on Thursday should mean your are playing against level 5 monsters. Let me know. CYA!

I played on MHM for a few minutes the other day, and found that everything seemed to be fine. I did notice that you do not get 10 health points for each monster you kill like you do on Chico's server. I always thought Chico's way of giving a little extra health balanced out about the same as the auto regenerate to 100 HP that MHM used to have.
The way it stands now, without that small health bonus I'd say that MHM is a bit harder than Chico's server. I didn't notice that there was a limit of 30 lives.
Long Corridor 2006 is a tough map, and absolutely requires team play. We often waited in one of the little rooms at the end of a section for those who got killed to try to catch up to the group so we could all work together.

If the monsters are set at a tougher level now, LC 2006 should work out to be a doozie.

Good

Good to hear Nameless. I appreciate your "well respected" input. Yes, there are only 30 lives. and yes I don't give any points for killing monsters either.

Monsters aren't real. UT isn't real. In fact, it is UNREAL. I stress that because I wanted to lean a little closer towards what little reality this game can have. 30 lives! C'mon people! I can see needing more for BT type maps but other than that, I think even 30 is more than plenty and the reduced number forces people to think and try harder. Nameless might recall I took this a little bit too far before along time back when I would not even use a regenerating type mods like BIGI'z Mod or Chico's Mod. Bad mistake on my part then but correct action this time with these settings I think.

Points for people killing monsters didn't make sense to me at all. So I changed it too. This may be a mistake on my part. We'll see. I should listen to Nameless more and his opinion should mean plenty to each of us since it was he and Scify and Blonde Hottie who pushed (forced) me to try this Monster Mod out. I hated it at first and refused to set up a server for over a year not to mention it is much harder to set up than a regular DM type server. It was Nameless though who kept on me and now this server exist due to his persistence. Thanks Nameless. CYA!

Well thanks for the praise there Herm, but it's not really deserved.

If we searched through the archive of Schwantz's old forum preserved over at Redeemer Insanity; I think we would find your original thread that started this all. In that thread you spoke of having done a little research of the various mods out there for UT. You made a list of some interesting sounding ones, and asked if anyone was willing to try or had already tried any of them out. And if so, which ones were any good?
I looked down the list and saw one that looked intriguing called "Monster Hunt". It took a bit of searching, but I finally found the mod and the v. 5.03 patch on a Japanese website. There was just barely enough in English there to make it possible to figure out what to download. They also had some map packs, which contained a few interesting maps, and all of those really awful ones that we eventually weeded out of the rotation later.

It's really surprising that this mod survived, because at that time there was only 3's server to play on and it was often down, and then sometimes the server associated with the map packs would sometimes be available online in Japan. Somehow a fellow from Denver named Jackie came to start up an MH server, and that was the first good one I got to play on. Scify had by this time joined me, and later Blonde Hottie and Skank too. It was at Jackie's server that I met Nr.2000 and through him the bunch at Chico's. I think it must have been Nr.2000 who got Chico to try the mod over there in Europe.

In the mean time Scify, Blond Hottie and myself had been talking about how much fun we were having over on Jackie's server at Schwantz's forum. You got jealous of the regulars that had left Curious George's to try out this mod and started to threaten to build your own server to get us all back. We said fine, please do. And you did.

And the rest is history. You deserve at least 1/3 the credit for making Monster Hunt the come back hit that it is today. Because of Jackie's, Chico's, and your server lots of players became exposed to this mod, and went on to start up their own servers.
Credit should also be given to the early work done by the Japanese players, who came up with the original UTJMH mod for Monster Hunt, that made the game playable for large groups on a server.

:)
