Well thanks for the praise there Herm, but it's not really deserved.
If we searched through the archive of Schwantz's old forum preserved over at Redeemer Insanity; I think we would find your original thread that started this all. In that thread you spoke of having done a little research of the various mods out there for UT. You made a list of some interesting sounding ones, and asked if anyone was willing to try or had already tried any of them out. And if so, which ones were any good?
I looked down the list and saw one that looked intriguing called "Monster Hunt". It took a bit of searching, but I finally found the mod and the v. 5.03 patch on a Japanese website. There was just barely enough in English there to make it possible to figure out what to download. They also had some map packs, which contained a few interesting maps, and all of those really awful ones that we eventually weeded out of the rotation later.
It's really surprising that this mod survived, because at that time there was only 3's server to play on and it was often down, and then sometimes the server associated with the map packs would sometimes be available online in Japan. Somehow a fellow from Denver named Jackie came to start up an MH server, and that was the first good one I got to play on. Scify had by this time joined me, and later Blonde Hottie and Skank too. It was at Jackie's server that I met Nr.2000 and through him the bunch at Chico's. I think it must have been Nr.2000 who got Chico to try the mod over there in Europe.
In the mean time Scify, Blond Hottie and myself had been talking about how much fun we were having over on Jackie's server at Schwantz's forum. You got jealous of the regulars that had left Curious George's to try out this mod and started to threaten to build your own server to get us all back. We said fine, please do. And you did.
And the rest is history. You deserve
at least 1/3 the credit for making Monster Hunt the come back hit that it is today. Because of Jackie's, Chico's, and your server lots of players became exposed to this mod, and went on to start up their own servers.
Credit should also be given to the early work done by the Japanese players, who came up with the original UTJMH mod for Monster Hunt, that made the game playable for large groups on a server.
